Bespoke Trackside Timing Hut

Hunts Kart Racing Club approached The Shed Factory to ask if we would like to quote for a new, improved and larger timing hut for their race track. We readily agreed but knew it would be a difficult build as it was raised off the ground, close to another building and was also subject to a very tight time schedule. Hunts Kart Racing Club is near Kimbolton and run an all year round British Race series with monthly events, meaning that they had to dismantle the old hut on the Monday after their race meeting and we then started on the Tuesday to start the build giving us just under 2 weeks for us to complete our part of the works. This allowed them to get all the equipment and intercoms installed so they could run the following race meeting.

Construction of this build consisted of:

• Fixing down an 18mm ply floor to metal work that they had put in place. We had to level this first.
• Constructing the frame-work from ex125 x 50mm timbers for the walls.
• Seating ex150mm x 50mm timbers on top for  roofing with 18mm ply boards.
• Fixing OSB boards to the outside of the framing.
• Lining the outside with a breathable membrane and fixing battens to the outside for the cladding.
• Installing the windows and door which are double glazed UPVC.
• Fixing the external cladding which is Hardieplank boards in Evening Blue.
• Sealing the roof with EPDM rubber.  “EPDM” stands for ethylene propylene diene monomer and is a black synthetic rubber membrane that is stuck down with an adhesive.  This has a life expectancy of 30+ years and is very hard wearing and durable. It is finished with nice black trims and corners.
• Insulating the building with 100mm insulation covered with 12mm ply.
• Installation of lighting, sockets and trunking by our electrician as advised by the customer.

The building also had an internal opening (at the back) which connected to the other building at the rear.

This new timber workspace is a massive improvement on what they originally had in place and will provide them with a warm and secure working environment for many years to come.
